Ingredients for Vanilla Cake Sponge Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup + for dusting

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Butter softened, 1 cup + for greasing

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 1 cup

  • Eggs 3

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Milk as required

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to180ºC. Grease a baking tin with some butter and dust with some flour.

Step 2

Cream together butter and sugar in a bowl with an electric beater till smooth.

Step 3

Add vanilla essence and eggs, one by one, beat well.

Step 4

Sieve flour into the mixture. Add baking powder and fold in till well combined. Add milk and mix well into a smooth batter.

Step 5

Pour the batter into the prepared tin, level it and tap. Place the tin in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. Remove from heat and cool down to room temperature.

Step 6

Serve or use as required.
